The FiiO E1 uses the line out signal from the iPod/iPhone, so it provides better sound quality, and is able to drive high impedance or low sensitivity headphones. With the in-line control function, you can easily control the playback of the iPod/iPhone from the E1 Amplifier. 5 out of 5 stars Real portable   November 4, 2009

These are my opinions about this Fiio E1 amp.

This amplifier is "portable". Yes, I mean it.
It's small and good-looking on your iPods.
For me, it is way better than these "portable amplifiers" that have almost the same size to your ipod or any mp3 player.
Yes, these portable amplifiers are portable. However, they are still too big for me to bring outside of home.
(I am not saying that they are bad, but the size of these amps are just too big for me to bring out. That's a personal issue or opinion.)

*There comes the important part.
Does it amplify?
Yes, it amplifies.
The sound coming out from your headphones is much richer than 3.5mm plug, and you can obviously feel it.
The sound gets richer in in low range, mid range, and high range, and the music stays on natural tone.

In overall, I would recommend this amplifier to who want richer sound for your ipod but don't want to carry a big amplifier with you.
And I am pretty sure that this little thing won't make you disappointed.

One thing I don't like about this product is the quality control.
Why did I pull this point out?
I found fingerprints on the product as new, and I "cannot" erase them.
I am not sure how and why fingerprints got on the it, but since it not an expensive amp.... Forget it.

PS: My headphones are Shure SE530, so I "assume" that headphones that have impedance around 32 ohms will be greatly amplified by this little amp. (of course it also depends on sensitivity and other factors, but this is just a rough guess for your reference)

*Update on Jan/27th/2010
By a chance, I got the SRS iWOW adapter with a cheap price, so I gave it a try. If you're looking for a portable amp, I still recommend the E1.
The iWOW produces extremely high background noise even when music is not playing, and the noise doesn't go away unless the volume is turned to high, which I usually don't. I tried to use it with several pairs of headphones. Headphones with lower sensitivity (in dB) seem to have lower noise. However, for me, it's still unacceptable. If you are not picky about the noise, go for it. If you're a big fan of Bass. Go for it.
On the other hand, if you're picky about background noise, don't even think about the iWOW. It's going to be annoying at all time. The E1 sounds more natural and balanced.
In overall, the E1 is a great product. You might not be able to get something better in this price.

5 out of 5 stars Great product   July 23, 2010

Great Product especially since you can use as an alternative solution if your itouch headphone jack is broken so you can use it to hear out of both headphones. The only discomfort is the long extension cord which is kind of useless.

5 out of 5 stars Its size like a baby but the sound is Huge.   December 13, 2009

I used this baby E1 with my Westone 2(after "burning-in" them for 200 hrs) and iPod Nano 4th gen. I can honestly say this E1 can make my earphones deliver better sound (much richer) with much more detail, more bass and a wider soundstage. I'm so happy with this baby with the sound it's got.
In my opinion, I would highly recommend to use this baby for 5-10 hrs, and the sound will get better. (like burn in)

Pros
- Portable and affordable price
- Delivers better sound
- Worth the cost
Cons
- I found some fingerprints on it but it's OK for me.
- It cannot work properly with iPhone.

4 out of 5 stars Great little amp   July 31, 2010
Rikdoggg
This is a great little amp,It uses line out signal so sound is very clean. The volume control works very well, goes quite loud.I only rate it 4 stars because I don't really care for the long cord(I shortened it)nor do I like the button placement, it's easy to hit the forward or back buttons when changing the volume. Otherwise this is a great amp for the price.

Pros:
Great volume range
Very clean sound
Very small
Price
Attractive

Cons:
Ipod battery life reduced
Cord way too long
Button placement could be better

3 out of 5 stars useful cable amp   May 10, 2010
Isaia Barriga Rodriguez (spain)
its very useful and it works well enough for its price.
gave only 3 stars because it REALLY does need a "hold" button so that you dont keep switching songs by mistake...

still, if you have an ipod and a good pair of headphones that need a little more power but you dont want to spend too much, this is a good choice
