Excellent Package ! October 23, 2009 Joel L. Davies (California) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Adds just enough power to drive your phones to their potential. Just enough. EQ is in 2 settings, a flat line, which I find useless for my own prefferences, and a Bass Boost which again is "just enough" to give the Bass a nice full punchy feel and sound to it. Very enjoyable. Again, just enough to allow your phones to perform up to their potential. I've tried them using my Sennheiser PMX 70's, PMX 80's (which for compactness and portability is a match made in audiophile heaven), and with my PX 200's as well as my HD 280 Pro's. Also this Amp does wonders with my AKG 27i's. It's that extra bit of power driven into the phones that allow them to perform as they should, maybe even better than they should. I've powered them with my laptop, Desktop, my collection of Creative players from my Zen Micro's, Creative Zen Touch's, my Creative Jukebox Zen Xtra (which was superb), my Zen Vision M sounded again superb, and I've used it with three different Muvo T-100's, the Zen V Plus and a San Disc Clip. Didn't have any iPods to try it with, but all of these players and sources were well served by the Fiio E-5. The only remaining question is how much service we will see the battery deliver. At the price, it can't be a problem. battery dies oneday simply buy a new Amp, as it is sealed in the unit. This is a winner, not just for it's performance, but tremendously for it's size, effective clip, and quality of construction and design. Well done you guys ! If your friends and loved ones own any music player and use their headphones, this belongs in their Christmass Stockings or under the Tree this year! You might find it will reintroduce them to their headphones once again. In fact the new Sennheiser PMX80 Sport Series II Behind the Head Ear Phones For Sports which have improved Bass in their new drivers over the PMX 70, when combined with the Fiio Bass Boost is a major Homerun.
Great value for money! June 20, 2009 Nettie (NZ) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Working in an open plan office we tend to create our own private space by using headphones. Unfortunately to drive my Sennheiser HD 201's, the power out from the phone jack on my computer at work really doesn't work with these headphones. Solution - Fiio!
At the price you can buy these for they really do:
- improve the volume output
- improve the sound quality
Really the hardest question for me was the choice between the E3 and the E5, but for not much more you get a rechargeable battery (big bonus), volume control and bass boost. All in a tiny package.
My headphones are now permanently connected through my Fiio! Just makes all the difference for a such a small price!
Little package, big punch August 4, 2009 G. Ishii (Hawaii) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Up until a couple of weeks ago, I had never heard of a headphone amp. Well, I guess part of the reason is that I never owned a good pair of phones. I recently bought a pair of Sennheiser HD-595 Premier Headphone (here on Amazon), which are tight (see my review). The Senns have pretty high impedance (50 ohms), and my netbook and ipod don't have enough juice to power it. Therefore, the need for a headphone amp arose.
One of the first HP amps that I came across was the FiiO F5. I had never heard of this brand. I think a reviewer mentioned that its Chinese. Anyhoo, The features that hooked me was its price, size(it's the same size as the iPod shuffle), and simplicity. Seeing a majority of positive reviews, I decided to go for it. I received it in 3 days from Head-Direct (which I would recommend since it was under $25 with shipping, and they use Amazon for payment).
Upon first trial through my iPod, I was a little miffed because there was a high frequency "noise", is the best way I can describe it. But it went away when I played the music, and it never recurred. I played music with, and without the amp, and the difference is quite remarkable. With thew FiiO connected, aside from a big boost in volume, the depth is also enhanced. The bass boost is subtle, but noticable. I would recommend maxing out the volume on the amp and controlling the volume from the source, as the button is quite small and right next to the output plug.
Other than the sound, the things I like about it is its size, internal rechargeable battery, on/off button, clip, and blue/red light, which indicates when it is on/off or charging/charged. It also comes with a 6" and 3' cord, and a USB to mini USB charging cable.
The only things I can think of that I don't like is the fact that it charges through the computer, which means that, 1) you need access to a computer, and 2) the computer has to be on. I also find it a little disturbing that the instruction manual states that the battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times, BUT the battery will eventually wear out and is irreplaceable. Hopefully, it will last 25 bucks worth of charges! Which brings me to question how long the charge will last. And since I just got it, I have yet to figure that out. Highly recommend it.
Great April 14, 2009 M. B. Raphael 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am satisfied with this product. This really brings out the potential of my headphones originally being powered from my weak Walkman mp3 player. I am happy I purchased this amp.
Works like a charm, solid build, and pleasing to the eyes. August 6, 2009 Stuart Rogers (New Orleans, LA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Its been working great since I took it out of the box. It does what its supposed to do, has a nice bass boost feature, pretty lights, good battery life, and really solid build. The clip is made of metal and is very strong. The only thing about the product that I don't like is the volume rocker. The '-' side is really close to one of the plugs, so when somethings in there its a little hard to press. Its just a small complaint, not a reason to not buy it.
